Eclectus parrots belong to the scientific family of Psittacidae. There are 9 subspecies of Eclectus parrots.
Eclectus parrots are medium size parrots. The Eclectus parrot is 14 inches in length and has a wingspan of 32 inches. Eclectus parrots are most notable for their extreme sexual dimorphism. The reason is it very easy to tell apart males and females is that males have mainly green feathers and females have mainly red feathers. In certain subspecies females display some amount of additional coloration.
Eclectus parrots are native to the Solomon Islands, Sumba, New Guinea, Maluku Islands and Australia.
The Echlectus parrot eats fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
The most common health related problems Eclectus parrots may have is nutrient deficiencies.
Eclectus parrots may live until the age of the 30.
Eclectus parrots are known for being calm and curious and appreciate calm environments. They are also great voice mimickers.
